Bepxercises


Next week we'll be launching three weekly photo sections:
1. a series on the great variety of ingredients used in all of Bep's dishes and drinks
2. a series on the board we use to advertise the specials
3. a series called "What is Marcos wearing today"




Special for this week! Bo Kho- Vietnamese beef Stew!

At Bep we try to use as much ingredients of the season. In Fall Apples are everywhere so we are integrating some apples in a roll dish- We will call it Goi Cuon Tao- Summer roll with apple- I guess we could it Autumn roll. ( Roll filled with apples, Pork and Shrimp with vermicelli).
What better when it is cold than a good bowl of Beef Stew- We would propose the Vietnamese Beef stew cooked with lemongrass, tomatoes, Star Anise served with Fresh Thai Basil and either toasted bread or rice noodles!

We love that mix!!!

We really enjoy the music mix made by Pocketknife and Don Vu for Gargyle. We would play it starting tonight at Bep. You can download it to that site.

Tet trung thu-Moon celebration.

Strolling around Chinatown this week, I noticed the abundance of Pomelos. In Asia Pomelo is the represention of the moon. So I decided to do a salad that I love the Goi Buoi- Pomelo Salad, it is a classic Vietnamese dish. Just need some extra lanterns and the Moon celebration would be completed.

Shine like a star( fruit).

Today I was strolling around Chinatown looking for new exciting ingredient and I found some beautiful starfruit (khe in Vietnamese). I decided that today special would be a starfruit salad. The sour of the starfruit would be balanced with the sweetness of the sauce and the shrimps.

today is CREPE Day!!!!




This Monday is Crepe day! The special today is Banh Xeo- Vietnamese crepe filled with beansprount pork and shrimp. We have also the pleasure to host our friend Nan from France, who is going to make his "famous" traditional French crepe as dessert. BIG NEWS!!! Bep is opening more nights!



We are very excited to announce that...beginning Thursday, June 18th, we will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night for the summer from 6 pm to 10 pm! We will continue to be open on Mondays from noon to 10 pm as usual.
We hope to see you and satisfy your stomach this summer!

First review on serious eats.

Bep just received its first review from the site Serious eats. I am glad that they like some of the dishes I made. It is very exciting however I would still have to work on improving on some dishes. I am working on setting a new menu for Spring.

I am currently in SF and I am discovering such amazing places to eat which are very inspirational. Here are few of them. I went to Bar Crudo focused on raw seafood dishes...un delice!!!! a big thank you to Andrew. I also went to an old SF instituion called Swan Oyster Depot...great raw bar for cheap with an old diner feeling.

Frenchnamese

I met last Monday at Bep a guy, his name is Nam. He is a French- Vietnamese like me and it seems he is really into "charcuterie", he is making terrines, rillettes et boudin. I am a huge fan of boudin noir. Boudin noir is a sausage made out of pig blood. It is delicious especcially with sauteed apples. I hope to try his boudin soon. Please come to check his blog.

Bep is wishing everyone Chuc Mung Nam Moi (Happy New Year). We were open on Lunar New Year's Day. More and more people came to celebrate the beginning of the year of the Ox.
The special dish served on that day was Thit Kho Trung (caramelized braised pork belly) with pickled bean sprouts.

BEP's logo

A special thank you to Lauren, Megan, and Alisha for helping to design the perfect logo. I feel a special connection to this logo. The colors are true to my Vietnamese origin and the dove represents Peace - the meaning of my name, An.

Finally! The BEP is open!!!

The long awaited BEP is finally having its first opening this MLK day: Monday, January 19th from 11 am to 10 pm.  
Simple Cafe, a cozy French eatery, will be taken over by BEP every Monday. For now, it will be open exclusively on Mondays.
I will be taking control of the bep (kitchen in Vietnamese) and will be serving Vietnamese staples like Pho, Hu Tieu, Cha Gio, and Banh Mi.
For a quick bite, I recommend that you grab a Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich). BUT, nothing could be better than a nice, hot, steaming bowl of Pho (Tonkin beef noodle soup) or Hu Tieu (Saigon pork and shrimp noodle soup) during this arctic winter...
Every week, I will be posting the menu for the upcoming Monday as there may be changes and specials.
